The UC Irvine Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS), invites applications for an associate specialist position beginning 4/1/2018.

The center is looking for an associate specialist in the area of improving precipitation estimation and forecast for reservoir operation using remote sensing and in-situ observations. The candidate will be responsible for developing quantitative precipitation estimation and forecast in support of short-term hydropower scheduling.

The successful candidate should have a strong background in remote sensing precipitation, uncertainty analysis of precipitation estimation, statistical data mining and machine learning techniques, hydrological process modeling and data assimilation. In addition to the qualifications, the position requires a Ph.D. in civil or environmental engineering, Earth sciences, or other related quantitative fields from an accredited university.

The candidate will be responsible for writing reports, research papers and grant proposals. The prospective scholar will work with Professor Soroosh Sorooshian and his research colleagues at the Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing    

Initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, renewable subject to performance and availability of adequate funding. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
