Associate Specialist Position with Professor Diego Rosso
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Irvine invites applications for an associate specialist position beginning Jan. 15, 2019.
The candidate must hold a doctoratw by the time of appointment. Applicants with postdoctoral experience will be given priority. The candidate will participate in a research project related to analysis of aerated biological processes, with an emphasis on high-purity oxygen processes and deep tank aeration. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral. Fluency in Spanish is also required, as well as the ability to understand the dynamics of operation and maintenance of a water resource recovery facility in both English and Spanish. Field visits to treatment facilities will be part of the research duties, and the ability to communicate with facility personnel is critical to this position.
The candidate should demonstrate prior experience in the subject of dynamic modeling of aeration systems, with publications in a Q1 journal within the last three years. Also, the candidate will be expected to oversee aeration system analysis using the off-gas technique, therefore the candidate should have experience with this technique and the standard testing protocols required. Knowledge of decision support systems is highly desired. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate full competence with biotechnology and molecular tools, as they apply to biological wastewater treatment.
Initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, renewable subject to performance and availability of adequate funding. The prospective scholar will work in the UCI Water-Energy Nexus Center with Professor Diego Rosso and Professor Sunny Jiang (http://wex.uci.edu/ )
