Postdoctoral Scholar – Synthesis and Characterization of Powder-based Advanced Materials

Commensurate with experience
Will remain open until filled

A postdoctoral position is available in the field of synthesis and characterization of powder-based advanced materials in Professor Julie Schoenung’s laboratory in UCI’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. The postdoctoral scholar will conduct research on investigating structure-property relationships in advanced, novel nanostructured materials. Experimental synthesis and processing methods will include but not be limited to the application of powder-based techniques such as spark plasma sintering and direct laser deposition. Applicants should be recent Ph.D. graduates with backgrounds in materials science and engineering, or related fields (degree date of 2015 or later). The candidate must be self motivated and have extensive hands-on experience in powder-based materials synthesis, processing and consolidation into bulk samples/components and characterization techniques including XRD, SEM, TEM and related data analysis. The position will also entail mentoring graduate and undergraduate students: writing research proposals; and preparation, submission and publication of peer-reviewed journal papers.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter detailing their research interests, a CV and contact information for at least three references to our online RECRUIT system at:

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
